Honda Sets All-Time Calendar Year Production Record for Auto Production in Asia and China


January 27, 2011 – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced a summary of automobile production, Japan domestic sales, and export results for the calendar year 2010 as well as for the month of December 2010.


Calendar Year of 2010
Production in Japan experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in four years (since 2006).

Production in regions outside of Japan experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years (since 2008).

Worldwide production also experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years (since 2008).

Honda sets all-time record for calendar year production in Asia and China.

December 2010
Production in Japan for the month of December 2010 experienced a year-on-year decrease for the first time in two months (since October 2010).

Production in regions outside of Japan experienced a year-on-year increase for the 14th consecutive month (since November 2009). This includes record production in Asia and China for the month of December.

Worldwide production experienced a year-on-year increase for the 13th consecutive month (since December 2009).


Calendar Year of 2010
Due mainly to strong sales of Fit and Freed, total domestic auto sales in calendar year 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the third consecutive year (since 2008).

New vehicle registrations experienced a year-on-year increase for the third consecutive year (since 2008).

Sales of mini-vehicles experienced a year-on-year decrease for the fourth consecutive year (since 2007).


Fit was the industry’s second best-selling car among new vehicle registrations for calendar year 2010 with sales of 185,433 units. Freed wasthe industry’s fifth best-selling car with sales of 95,123 units. Step WGN was the industry’s seventh best-selling car with sales of 80,933 units.


Life was the industry’s seventh best-selling car among mini-vehicles for calendar year 2010, with sales of 63,352 units. Zest was the industry’s tenth best-selling car with sales of 38,377 units.

December 2010
Total Japan domestic market auto sales for the month of December 2010 experienced a year-on-year decrease for the fourth consecutive month (since September 2010).

New vehicle registrations experienced a year-on-year decrease for the fourth consecutive month (since September 2010).

Sales of mini-vehicles experienced a year-on-year decrease for the third consecutive month (since October 2010).


Fit was the industry’s second best-selling car among new vehicle registrations for the month of December 2010 with sales of 14,547 units. Freed was the industry’s fourth best-selling car with sales of 5,903 units. Step WGN was the industry’s seventh best-selling car with sales of 3,979 units.


Life was the industry’s fourth best-selling car in the mini-vehicle category for the month of December 2010, with sales of 7,489 units.

Total exports experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in three years (since 2007).

Total exports from Japan in December 2010 experienced a year-on-year increase for the second consecutive month (since November 2010).
